April 1, 2008

Happy Spring!  The trees are budding out, the grass is turning green and that all means one thing ~ CAMP is rapidly approaching and we can't wait.   Schmitt and Nicia are still recovering from their surgeries and both are doing fine.  Nicia has lost 58 pounds!  Schmitty is still in a cast and looks forward to the day when that is off.  We had our first Spring group last weekend and we will have groups every weekend this spring except for one.  Counselor recruitment looks good for first term and we still have some positions for second term.  The observatory site looks great and construction will begin on that very soon in anticipation of our May 17th First Light Ceremony.  Our Mother/Daughter weekends are packed.  The first two are closed at this time, but the May 9 to 11th still has a little room.  So, if you are planning to come for a weekend, don't delay, register today before it's too late.  Let us hear from you and start the countdown!

Register here for Mother Daughter Weekend ~ April 25-27 (CLOSED), May 2-4, (CLOSED) May 9-11

Hayley Greenspan and her Mom flew to New Orleans for a few days at Spring Break to see Mary Acomb and her family. Hayley and Mary were so excited to be able to spend some time together.  Bet there was lots of giggling going on in New Orleans.  Hayley is counting the days until 2nd term.  Camp friends are the best!

Ashley Cardwell won first place in her tennis tournament a few weeks ago.  That was the first time she won first place in singles and we are very proud of her.  Go, Ashley.

Kathryn Schmitt has been accepted into Pope John Paul XXIII high school for next year and she is very excited about that. Kathryn and Elisa visited for Easter and it was so great to have them here.

Tuesday Wendel writes that she made two UIL teams and also made the A honor roll this past 6 weeks.  She is already collecting stuff for camp.

Natalie Bixler went to New York City with her choir for the first four days of Spring Break.  Corinne McLeod was her roommate and they had a great time.  She also stays busy with UIL Solo and Ensemble and will compete in State in those events.  Her robotics team will be headed to Atlanta in April for the World Competition and we wish her luck with that.

Stacey and Lacey Parker were headed to Houston for Spring Break and were looking forward to getting away for a few days.

Desie Baker spent Spring Break in Mexico and had a great time.

Kathleen Cunnane and her family are in Playa del Carmen for Spring Break this week and we know they are having a blast.

Amy Adams Blazek and husband, Chris, had a baby boy, Andrew, on March 26th.  They are so happy and we can't wait to see pictures.

Sarah Schmitt will be late for camp this summer as she was elected to attend the Jr. National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. from June 8 too 13th.  What a great honor, Sarah and we will save you a bunk.

Schmitt and Nicia attend Katie Irish's wedding on March 15th in Dallas.  They were so excited to spend time with Stacey Bell Wiggins, Valerie Hoover, Sarah Ellen Gomez, and Hayley Archer.

Catherine McGanity sent us some beautiful pictures from the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.  We are so excited that Catherine will be with us both terms this summer.

Emily Lewis, Caroline Flowers, Monique Lander and Michelle Bruman are coming to help us for the 2nd Mother/Daughter weekend and we really appreciate their help.  Emily's drill team director did not understand why Emily wouldn't miss Camp for drill team ~ some people just don't get it, Emily.  Good decision, Emily.
